Painting: Acrylic, Latex and Graphite on Canvas.
Cheryl Johnson Artist

I have always had a love affair with Joan Mitchell and finally I just let loose and emulated her style. What a joy to simply use energy to paint.

Joan Mitchell is known for the compositional rhythms, bold coloration, and sweeping gestural brushstrokes of her large and often multi-paneled paintings. Inspired by landscape, nature, and poetry, her intent was not to create a recognizable image, but to convey emotions.
This painting was inspired by Joan Mitchell.

I love to explore technique and style and enlarge my skills. The paintings that I create are meant to bring you joy, and pleasure. I hope they inspire and uplift, as well as enhance your interiors.

I believe that our homes should be sanctuaries that surrounds us with comfort, color, beauty and the things we love.

I loved creating the colors and brush work in this work. I hope you feel an emotional connection to this work, or perhaps LOVE Joan Mitchell like I do.

I hope this painting makes you feel good, then I've accomplished what I set out to do.

Hopefully, you'll want this painting in your home or office! Or maybe you're considering this artwork for a special gift. This one is hard to part with today! Thank you Joan!

Hawaii

If you have not made it by my new site please go: cheryljohnsonartist.com UPDATE:  I will be back in Hawai in June: I made my reservations last night to go back home to Hawaii for the summer season.  Yeah! There is nothing I enjoy more than walking by the ocean at Kee in the morning. The inspiration is overwhelming. The beauty is everywhere. If you are lucky there are rainbows when you are flying in. I love the ocean and really enjoy getting out my paints and painting plein air.  How does one paint a rainbow?  From morning till the sunsets the view is amazing. Kee at sunset is magnificent. I love painting the sea.  I call this - Rothko Sea...layers of Rothko colors

Art is More Than About Money

Art is More Than About Money Cheryl Johnson Artist Why do people paint?  They have a passion to create.  Just look at the Impressionists.   Paul Gaugin was first a father, a stockbroker, then an Impressionist and when he came into his own he was a working artist living in Tahiti, doing what he loved. "Life has no meaning unless one lives it with a will, at least to the limit of one's will. Virtue, good, evil are nothing but words, unless one takes them apart in order to build something with them; they do not win their true meaning until one knows how to apply them." Paul Gauguin Often artists express with a brush what is difficult to express with words. I paint because I love the process and the way I feel in creating. There is an energy and joy that comes over me and I get lost in the finding. It is a must do element to my life. Yes I love when people enjoy my work and want to purchase the work for their home or business. I have sold both in galler...
